Bike tour French Castles: PERIGORD, EL LOT and LOURDES
This bike tour is designed for those who love mountains, cool bends, mountain serpentines and certainly magnificent mountain landscapes! In this round you´ll visit the most beautiful corners of France, its well-known medieval castles, caves, vineyards, holy sites, will get acquainted with medieval architecture and of course with South France traditional cuisine!
1st Day. Transfer and arrival to hotel 3-4 stars in Laredo (Bilbao or Santander), then presentation of documents and route planning. Welcome dinner.
2nd Day. 420 km. In the evening we´ll stop in 3-4 stars hotel in Bordeaux.
The route of day will pass through the picturesque Atlantic coast with its mountain sites of roads to bourgeois Biarritz, the fashion city founder for bathing in the sea for health. Here we´ll have lunch and sightseeing trip of the city. Further we´ll go to Bordeaux where we will stop for the night. Sightseeing tour around the city. On the route there are 4 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
3rd Day. 180 km. In the evening a stop in hotel of 3-4 stars in Sarlat-la-Canéda.
Departure from Bordeaux in a tourist mecca of the South of France Bergerac who took more than once prizes at competition of the most flower cities of the world. Having overcome a river Dordonne valley, we go to Beynac where in a medieval castle we are waited by a dinner. After a dinner we will visit idyllic Roque Gageac, and we arrive to Sarlat-la-Canéda. After moving in hotel we visit the medieval downtown which has kept the original shape up to now. On the route there are 3 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
4th Day. 130 km. In the evening a stop in hotel of 3-4 stars in Sarlat-la-Canéda.
The day will be full with new impressions. The beginning of a route will pass on roads with landscapes that will remind to you old French movies. Then we´ll stop in Padirac and we will visit the region´s well-known caves. Further we´ll visit to the city of Rocamadour, which its Gothic castle situated on the aged of the rock! We´ll come back to hotel in Sarlat-la-Canéda in the evening. On the route there are 3 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
5th Day. 220 km. In the evening a stop in hotel of 3-4 stars in Moissac.
The route of day will begin with Saint-Cirq-Lapopie visit, with its Gothic castles on the edge 100m. over the river! Further we´ll enjoy mountain bends roads along Bouziers with views of the river Lot. We´ll visit famous Valentré Bridge and we will have lunch in historical part of the city of Cahors. After the lunch we will continue the way along the twisting mountain river Lot. The final stop this day is the small town Moissac where we´ll do a sightseeing tour on temples and palaces of different epochs. On the route there are 4 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
6th Day. 290 km. In the evening a stop in hotel of 3-4 stars in Formigal.
Departure from Moissac to Lourdes, a holy plays for Catholics where according to legends in 1858 appeared the Virgin Mary, and dozens of thousands of pilgrims come here every year in search of a miracle and diseases treatment. After a lunch we´ll enjoy great climbings and descents. We´ll begin with El Aubisque top, then Portalet and at last mountain Formigal where we´ll get he deserved rest. On the route there are 4 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
7th Day. 380 km. In the evening a stop in hotel of 3-4 stars in Laredo (Cantabria, Spain)
We´ll leave Tena valleys, further mountain roads of Jaca are waiting for us, and also Navarra the medieval capital of Pamplona well-known for its San Fermin bulls run on city streets glorified by Hemingway! Further we´ll ancient Vitoria, the capital of the Basque Country which was called by Hugo “the perfect Gothic city” and our route comes over in Laredo – the city well-known 6-km sandy beach. The route comes over with a goodbye dinner and some souvenirs detail for participants! On a route there are 4 stops for pictures, snacks and lunch.
8th Day. Breakfast in the hotel, organizational issues and a transfer in the airport, or you might go on your own route.
